This graphic shows the orbits of all the known Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs), numbering over 1,400 as of early 2013. These are the asteroids considered hazardous because they are fairly large (at least 460 feet or 140 meters in size), and because they follow orbits that pass close to the Earth’s orbit (within 4.7 million miles or 7.5 million kilometers). But being classified as a PHA does not mean that an asteroid will impact the Earth: None of these PHAs is a worrisome threat over the next hundred years. By continuing to observe and track these asteroids, their orbits can be refined and more precise predictions made of their future close approaches and impact probabilities. Steinway & Sons, the celebrated piano making company, recently produced this video of how their grand pianos are constructed. Their process for building pianos has changed so little that they were able pair 1980s factory tour audio from former chairman John Steinway to contemporary footage of their Astoria, NY factory. Depuis près d’un mois, un album de Prefab Sprout circule sous le manteau : The Devil Came A-Calling. Avant-première ? Bandes tombées d’une étagère ? Cadeau des dieux ? Coup marketing ? Faute de communication officielle; le mystère reste complet. Obscure Sound, qui le compare déjà à Jordan : The Comeback, a retrouvé des extraits d’interview en faisant mention. Le carbone 14 confirmera s’il date bien de 2005. A l’oreille en tout cas, aucun doute n’est permis : c’est du Prefab Sprout dans toute sa splendeur délicieusement surannée. L’année du retour de Bowie sera t-elle également l’année où Paddy McAloon sortira de sa retraite ? Le diable en rit déjà.
